TEDF thyristor drive


Crane TEDF thyristor panels, general data

    The crane thyristor panels of TEDF type, are designed for start-up, braking, speed reversal, and regulation of rotation speed of electric drives with phase-wound rotor of crane mechanisms. The given panels are developed as a replacement for out-of-date relay-contactor panels, they are allowed to use by the GOSTEKHNADZOR of Russia, are delivered for kitting to the crane plants, and also for modernization of operating cranes. The TEDF panels are introduced at dozens of enterprises in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, they have got only positive feedback. 
    The principle of TEDF operation lies in controlling the engine with the phase-wound rotor by means of power thyristors by inclusion of active or reactive resistances into the rotor chain; the broad range of regulation is achieved by means of applying pulse-key control and dynamic braking.  
    Physically the panels are made as TEDF cabinets and are improved analogues of the contactor panels. The list of TEDF cabinets made by the Dvesta Ltd. in typical version is shown in the table on page 4. However, it is possible to manufacture the equipment in close conjunction with the customer taking into account individual characteristics of the hoisting crane.
   The warranty operation period of the TEDF panels is 12 months.
   Under the agreement with the customer, the Dvesta Ltd. performs contract supervision, commissioning and start-up of the TEDF panels.

Advantages of the TEDF crane panels

 
   The use of noncontact commutation (thyristor key) in the TEDF panels offers considerable advantages in relation to the relay-contactor panels. 

  • High reliability in operation and probability of trouble-free operation of the electrical crane equipment ensures the exclusion in TEDF of mechanical contactors from the power drive chain. It is especially actual for high-capacity cranes during their utilization in environments with the increased dust and moisture content, for example, in the cement production, mining industry, metallurgy, and in ports.
  • High performance of the TEDF system and the possibility of the enhanced frequency of the drive switching-on.

    The TEDF panels are easily adapted to the peculiarities of the concrete cranes due to the availability of the built-in industrial controller.

   The complex optimum drive control in TEDF with the help of the industrial controller with high precision ensures:

  • time limits between switching-on of the steps decrease the dynamic loads on the engine and the reduction gear, mechanical elements of the crane constructions, increasing their reliability;
  • protection of the engines from maximum currents and loss of phase;
  • switching-off of all system devices during the failure of power mains voltage and crane stopping.

   The application of special modes in TEDF , i.e. the dynamic braking and the pulse-key regulation – guarantees high precision of drive positioning and high smoothness of the crane mechanisms travel.
The crane thyristor panels of TEDF type have the contactor analogues; this allows the staff without changing the crane characteristics to replace worn-out contactor panels with the noncontact ones. At the same time, due to the routine production practice, the price of the TEDF panels is commensurable with the price of the contactor ones.

Delivery set of the TEDF drives

   The delivery set of the TEDF drives includes:

  • control TEDF drive cabinet - 1 pc.;
  • door key - 2 pc.;
  • fuse - 5 pc;
  • spare parts and accessories - 1 kit;
  • operation documentation – 1 kit.
    The delivery set can be defined in the delivery agreement between the consumer and the manufacturer, including, when having general “zero protection” facilities at the crane, the TEDF drives can be delivered without any individual “zero protection” facilities during the failure of power mains voltage, and also without facilities for protection from skew and loss of phases.

   The following is included into a set of the operation documentation delivered together with the ТЭДФ drives:

  • operation manual  - 1 copy;
  • certificate - 1 copy;
  • list of operation documents - 1 copy;
  • list of spare parts of accessories - 1 copy.
